Use this fake name generator when you need a name or a list of names. Choose a country and gender, select how many names you want, and generate. Copy a single result into a form or export the displayed list to a spreadsheet. CSV and JSON contain the names you see, without adding addresses or contact details.
Given names and surnames are sampled independently from the selected locale. The combined display uses the site's shared given-name-first layout; native-script output and name order vary by locale. If your application needs family-name-first presentation, use the separate fields from the full identity generator or the JSON API instead of trying to split a display name by spaces.
Choose names for your task
For random names for test data, check Unicode preservation, long names and duplicate handling. Random generation does not guarantee every edge case, so add deliberate fixtures for the behaviors your application needs to support.
For names in demos and screenshots, save the list so the same example stays consistent across screens. For character names in fiction, use the output as a starting point and check that the name fits the character's setting.
A name is enough for a contact-list mockup. When you need complete people with several fields, use the fake identity generator. For many rows with selected columns, use bulk CSV, JSON or SQL export.
Where the names come from
The generator combines locale data from Faker with this site's name-formatting rules. It does not query a people database. Common names can repeat, and generated combinations can match real people by chance. Locale coverage is not a representative demographic sample; the data and methodology page describes the sources and limits.

How do I generate a list of random names?
Choose a country, gender and quantity, then press Generate name. The tool produces up to 100 names per click. Copy an individual name, or copy all and download CSV or JSON when more than one result is displayed.
Can I choose a country for the names?
Yes. Choose from 38 countries using the country selector. It changes the name pool for your next generation. Results already displayed stay unchanged until you generate again.
Are fake names different from random names?
Here both mean a fictional combination of given name and surname. The names come from locale-specific pools, not a list of customer records. A generated name can coincidentally match a real person, and a batch can contain repeats.
Can I generate only male or female names?
Yes. Choose Male or Female in the Gender selector, then generate. Any gender samples both. The filter applies to the next batch and uses the selected locale’s given-name data; surnames are sampled separately.
Does this name generator include addresses and phone numbers?
This page generates names only. Use the full identity generator for a name with address, phone and other profile fields, or bulk export to select columns for multiple records.
Can I use the names for characters or software testing?
Yes. They work as starting points for fictional characters, demo screens and test fixtures. They are not verified unique names or evidence of someone's identity. For repeatable software fixtures, use the seeded API and preserve the original Unicode text.
